An Online Message Board

An exchange between two users on an online message board in 1998–1999.
A user calling himself “Kurotaro” posts a message asking for sperm donation. Another user, using the handle “Rei,” shows interest.
It is a time when personal computers and the internet are just beginning to spread. As both users struggle with these new tools, will their exchange reach an agreement?

I made this work to see how much story could be told using only text on a computer screen.
The video is set on an online message board and shows a short story from the early days of the internet.
I grew up in the 2000s, so this work was a way for me to imagine how people at the end of the 1990s used computers and the internet. Thinking about how some people found hope in these new tools made me feel warm.
